Dan and Lori Rexwinkel have purchased Mauer-Johnson Funeral Homes from Joel and Nikki Johnson as of January 1, 2025. We want to thank Joel and Nikki for their years of service and dedication to our communities.

Former Owners
Joel and Nikki (Heissel) Johnson were both raised in Le Mars. Joel is a 1986 graduate of Le Mars Community High School and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Wayne State College. He graduated from the Dallas Institute of Funeral Service in 1990. Nikki is a 1986 graduate of Gehlen Catholic High School and earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from Briar Cliff College. Joel and Nikki are both active in their churches, St. John's Lutheran Church and All Saints Parish- St. James Catholic Church. The Johnsons have four children. Jacob is in the United States Army and is married to the former Shelby Kass. Madelyn and Jack are at home. Joel and Nikki's son Joshua died shortly after his birth. Their family enjoys boating, camping, and being active in the community.

Bill Bomgaars

Bill Bomgaars is a native of Maurice, Iowa, and has called Le Mars his home his entire adult life. Bill retired in 2006 from First Federal Bank, where he was the 1st Vice President and Branch Manager. Bill and his wife Mary are active members of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ. He is a member of Rotary International, Le Mars Business Initiative Corporation (L.B.I.C.), Floyd Valley Hospital Foundation, Le Mars Chamber of Commerce, as well as a host of other community-related organizations. Bill enjoys woodworking and driving his classic Diamond T pickup in parades.

Terry Olson

Terry Olson was born in Le Mars and was raised in Le Mars and Sioux City area. He graduated from Sioux City North High in 1974. He was united in marriage to Deb Den Ouden on February 23, 1980. In April 1974, Terry began working for Chicago Northwestern Railroad. It later merged with and became Union Pacific Railraod. He worked for the railroad for 42 years until his retirement in 2016. Terry and Deb have one son, Justin Olson, and he and his wife, Trista (Carter) Olson, live in Le Mars with their four children. Terry and Deb are members of Seney United Methodist Church. Terry enjoys fishing, boating with his family, and watching the Minnesota Vikings. He also loves makings things with and for his grandchildren and spending time with them.

Angie Maras grew up on a farm/ranch in McLaughlin, South Dakota. She graduated from South Dakota State University in 1992 with a bachelor's degree in Speech Therapy and Education. She continued her master's education at the University of South Dakota. Angie spent the next 25 years working in sales and fundraising. Angie lives with her husband Jon and their three sons: Drew, Cooper, and Logan, in Hartford, South Dakota. She loves spending time with her family and attending their many baseball games. In 2018, Angie joined the funeral industry. She is excited to be a part of our staff as our pre-need counselor. Kevin Eekhoff

Kevin Eekhoff was born and raised in Belmond, Iowa and graduated from Belmond High School in 1978. He attended Buena Vista University graduating in 1982 with a double major in Banking & Finance and Economics, and later his MBA at University of South Dakota. He worked in the banking field in NW Iowa for 43 years and retired from Northwest Bank in Le Mars on December 31, 2024.
Kevin was united in marriage to Julie Post on April 23, 1983, and they made their first home in Sioux City, Iowa, then 20 years in Akron, Iowa, before settling in Le Mars in 2009. Julie retired from the nursing field after a 44 year career. Kevin and Julie have one daughter, Stephanie Bernhardt and her husband, Luke Bernhardt, who also live in Le Mars. Stephanie and Luke blessed them with two grandchildren, Levi and Morgan

Kevin and Julie are active members of the Life Connection Global Methodist Church in Le Mars. Kevin enjoys riding his bicycle on RAGBRAI, golfing, refereeing high school football and basketball, attending Iowa Hawkeyes football games, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Darrell Kleihauer

Darrell Kleihauer was born and raised in Paullina, Iowa. He graduated from Paullina High School, completing his education in 1980. On April 7, 1984, Darrell married Sheila Halverson in Paullina, Iowa.
Darrell began his career as a meat cutter, working at United Foodland in Paullina for ten years. Later, he and Sheila moved their family to Le Mars, where Darrell continued his profession at Hy-Vee for two years. In 1991, Darrell started working for Wells, Dean Foods, and Kemps. He retired from Kemps after thirty-five years of service in February 2026.
For the past fifteen years, both Darrell and Sheila have served on the Le Mars Fire Rescue team, demonstrating their commitment to the community.
Darrell and Sheila are the proud parents of two daughters. Amy and her husband Dave live in Sergeant Bluff. Kayla and her husband Jason reside in Des Moines and have two sons, Everett and Bentley. Darrell and Sheila are active members of Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars.
Darrell enjoys riding motorcycles with friends, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, and spending quality time with his family. He especially loves spoiling his grandsons.
