Le Mars, Iowa, - Helen M. Miller, 92, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, formerly of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at her home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Parish-St. Joseph Church in Le Mars. Father Kevin Richter will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 with a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the Mass on Wednesday.

Helen Mary Bruggeman was born on June 7, 1924 on a farm outside of Larchwood, IA, the second of seven children born to William and Catherine (Roeman) Bruggeman. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s Catholic High School in Larchwood and Nettleton Business School in Sioux Falls, SD. There she met the love of her life, Daryl Miller, an airman from Pennsylvania. They were married on December 30, 1945 and spent the early years of their marriage in Pennsylvania. In 1955, they moved to the Midwest and eventually settled in Le Mars.

Helen was active in Catholic Daughters, Christian Mothers, Meals on Wheels and was a longtime active member of St. Joseph Church in Le Mars where she was involved in all aspects of the church. She was a Girl Scout leader and was involved in numerous card clubs, craft club, golf and bowling leagues. Helen’s great sense of humor created an undeniable bond with special friends and her loving family. She spent many hours playing cards and games with her grandkids, somehow always managing to win. She was a woman of faith and family and was loved by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Left to treasure her memory are her children, Dean and Kathy of Colorado Springs, CO; Rick and Priscilla of McKinney, TX; Kimberly Brouwer of Arnold’s Park, IA; Kathy and Rick Reding of Colorado Springs, CO; and Christie and Paul Hopkins of Lakeville, MN. She was blessed with 19 grandchildren, Jeff and Amy Miller, Brian Miller, Jill and Brian Becker, Angie Miller, Amy and Scot Hutcheon, Scott and Nicki Greever, Suzanne Greever, Stephanie Miller, Tiffany and Austin Appleby, Aaron and Jennifer Brouwer, Adam and Leah Brouwer, Ryan and Joy Reding, Ashleigh Reding, Jakob Reding, Joshua Reding, Andrew Reding, Brittany and Tim Bungert, Alex and Krystina Hopkins, and Jon Hopkins; 23 great- grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her siblings, Mick Bruggeman, Audrey Schwenck and Roger Bruggeman; sisters-in-law Bea Bruggeman, Patty Jo Bruggeman and Ione Miller; brother-in-law Richard Miller; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Daryl; son-in-law Ron Brouwer; great-grandson Brandon Reding; her parents; brothers Bob, Vince and William Bruggeman.
