William E. Linden, 94, of Moville, Iowa passed away on Monday, June 6, 2016 at Countryside Health Care Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 10, 2016 at the Johnson – Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley, Iowa. Rev. Cynthia Morrison will officiate. Burial will follow at Good Hope Cemetery, rural Correctionville, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at the Johnson – Earnest Funeral Home. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9:00 a.m. on Friday prior to the funeral service.
William Edward Linden was born on October 15, 1921 in Elyria, Ohio, the son of Albert Anthony and Mary Magdalena (Nufer) Linden. He graduated from Elyria High School prior to enlisting in the United States Army. William served overseas in the Pacific Theater on several islands as a cook. He earned an Honorable Discharge in 1946. Shortly after the service, William moved to Kingsley, Iowa and married Pearl Ella Taylor on April 2, 1946 at the Congregational Church.
William worked as a farmhand in the Kingsley and Pierson, Iowa area. The family later moved to Odebolt, Iowa where he held a position as a cheesemaker at the Odebolt Dairy and Cheese Factory and continued assisting area farmers. William also helped in the construction of silos with Hanson Silo – Iowa Inc. In 1966, the Linden’s called Moville their home. William took some welding classes and took a position with Missouri Valley Steel in Sioux City. He welded there until 1983 when he retired.
In his spare time, William enjoyed traveling with Pearl. Their most memorable trip was to the state of Alaska. He created numerous craft projects from wood that he shared with others. William liked to garden and was known for his front yard blanketed with Phlox. He played the Mandolin, had a love for country western music and never missed an episode of Lawrence Welk.
He will be lovingly remembered by his son and his wife, Norman and Theresa Linden of Wallingford, Iowa; a daughter and her special friend, Grace Linden and Wayne Lindgren of Sioux, City, IA; five grandchildren, Lisa McDaniel, Angela (Robert) Mitchell, Shane (Deyra) Rix, Corabeth (Rob) Tannenbaum, Ryan McDaniel; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Don (Janice) Linden of Auburn, CA; two sisters-in-law, Jeanne Linden of New London, OH and Dawn Linden of Blum, TX; and several nieces and nephews.
William was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pearl on December 9, 2012; brothers, Raymond, Albert, Bernard, Larry (Eileen); and a sister, Mary Eustace.
