Margie Marie Schroeder, 71, of Le Mars, Iowa danced on to eternal life on Monday, November 9, 2015 in her home after her courageous battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 16, 2015 at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. Joseph Church in Le Mars. Father Richard Sitzmann will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at St. Joseph Church in Le Mars; with family present at 4:00 p.m. A Rosary will take place at 5:00 p.m. and a Scriptural Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation on Monday prior to Mass.
Margie Marie Schroeder was born on April 8, 1944, in Le Mars Iowa to Clarence and Regina (Hunt) Croat. The youngest of four children, Margie grew up on a farm outside Granville, Iowa. She attended St. Joseph Catholic High School and graduated in1962.
Prior to graduation, Margie met Bob Schroeder while on a double date. On July 20, 1963 they were united in marriage at St Joseph Catholic Church in Granville. They made their home in Le Mars and welcomed
five children. Along with raising her children, Margie worked at Floyd Valley Hospital for 30 years. She retired on October 1, 1999.
Margie was a member of All Saints Catholic Parish-St Joseph's Church in Le Mars, Catholic Daughters of America, and Foresters of Granville. Margie enjoyed traveling, dancing, being at Richard's wrestling meets, winters in Palm Springs, the backyard pool in Ankeny and attending her grandchildren's activities. She loved to walk. Many people often commented on seeing Margie walking around town. Some of her fondest travels included Italy, all family vacations and the Netherlands. She loved getting together with friends for "Mary's
Tree" and "Holy Hour".
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 52 years, Bob of Le Mars, IA; children and their spouses, Julie and Joe Wittkop of Ankeny IA, Maggie and Mike Hutchison of Ankeny, IA, Ann and Tom Bunkers of Le Mars, IA, Richard and Talayeh Schroeder of St. Louis, MO; and a son-in-law, Jeff Freking of Kingsley, IA; sixteen grandchildren, Matt (Sarah), Megan, and Jenna Wittkop, Keaton (Viveka), Jordan, and Hunter Freking, Allie, Haley and Gracie Rudish, Danielle, Asher and Jules Hutchison, Miranda, Carly, Chloe, and Olivia Bunkers; a great granddaughter, Madison Freking; sisters, Geraldine Schuver of Remsen, IA and Clarice and Marvin Dahlberg of Warroad, MN; brother, Francis and Georgie of St. Cloud, MN and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Mary Freking; brothers-in-law, Jerry Wurth and Walt Schuver; niece, Angie Wurth, great-niece, Ashley Wurth; and a niece and her husband, Kathy and Shane St. Clair.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed through All Saints Catholic Parish - St. Joseph Church or Gehlen Catholic Schools in Le Mars.
