Verda Delperdang, 88, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 at Assumption Catholic Church in Merrill, Iowa. Msgr. Mark Duchaine will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Merrill. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2015 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 4-8 p.m. with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. and a scriptural prayer service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation on Tuesday at the church prior to Mass.
Verda Irene Heiden was born on January 2, 1927 on the family farm near Westfield, Iowa to Le Roy and Elsie (Epling) Heiden. She attended country school through 8th grade before graduating from Westfield High School in 1944. Verda continued schooling at Western Union School in Sioux City and then began working. Her classmate and roommate Rosemary Delperdang introduced Verda to her brother, William on his return from serving in WWII. The couple was married on July 6, 1948 at Assumption Catholic Church in Merrill, Iowa.
Verda and Bill lived in Sioux City for a few years before making Merrill their home. Verda stayed at home to raise their 5 children. Bill passed away in 1972 at which time Verda attended Western Iowa Tech. Earning a clerical certificate she took a position with Aalfs Manufacturing in Le Mars until her retirement at age 65. Verda enjoyed travelling, taking numerous trips as a guest with the Sweet Adeline’s and bus trips with the Good Neighbor Club in Le Mars, making many friends with her fellow travelers.
She was a member of Assumption Catholic Church in Merrill until moving to Le Mars in 2006. Verda was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout Leader when her children were younger. She was in a card club with Bill and enjoyed dancing, fishing and travelling. She was a dedicated wife and mother and will be remembered for her sewing, baking, and good cooking. She was always a farm girl at heart loving to be outdoors.
Verda will be lovingly remembered by her children and their spouses: Jim (Julie) Delperdang of Okoboji, Iowa, Janet Baack of Le Mars, IA, Susan (Dave) Albers of Sioux Falls, SD, Patti (Tom) Coppock of Sioux Falls, SD and Cindy (Chuck) Weber of Wichita, Kansas: grandchildren and their spouses, Mark and Amanda Delperdang, Amy and Charlie Bartel, Laura and Nicholas Deffer, Matthew and Amy Baack, Carrie and Troy Williams, John Coppock, Paul Coppock, Joe and Sara Coppock, Ann Coppock, Rebekah and Ryan Schwarz, Rachel and Parker Roth, Elizabeth, Billy and David Weber; great-grandchildren, Audrey, Ruth, Emeline, William, Clara, Garrett, Grace and Gavin; sisters-in-law, Betty Heiden of Durango, CO and Della Delperdang of Kingsley, IA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents: husband, Bill; a son-in-law, Tom Baack; brothers and sisters, Evelyn and Pete Bock, Cynthia Heiden, Dwight and Mary Heiden, Gladys and Don Stuart, Mainard Heiden, Harold and Delores Heiden, Iola and Wally Schleis.
