Lorrie Ann Curry was born on November 2, 1960 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Ruth Elaine (Hoskins) Parker. She attended elementary school at Dysart-Geneseo Elementary in Dysart, Iowa; and she attended high school at North Central in Manly, Iowa. Lorrie was heavily involved in vocal and band activities at school. Along with marching band and choir, Lorrie was the manager of the basketball team.
She continued her love of music at the University of Northern Iowa. She participated in the marching band and the Wesley Foundation. During the summers, Lorrie worked at the Girl Scout camp in Clear Lake, Iowa as a cook. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology with a minor in music.
On June 18, 1983 Lorrie and David Curry were united in marriage at Bethel United Methodist Church in Manly. In July of that year they moved to Le Mars where Lorrie worked with the Head Start program as a family services/parent involvement manager. She also returned to school and earned a master’s degree in counseling from the University of South Dakota at Vermillion.
After the birth of her sons, Adam and Ross, Lorrie knew that she needed to care for her children at home. She devoted her time to her family. After the boys were older, Lorrie took a position with Le Mars Day Care Inc. This daycare later became Building Blocks Preschool and Childcare where Lorrie continued expressing her love for children.
Along with God and her family, the United Methodist Church of Le Mars was central in Lorrie’s life. She was currently vice president of the United Methodist Women and the bell choir director. Lorrie also sang in the choir, served on worship team and helped with Meals on Wheels along with countless other “behind the scenes tasks” she performed. Her family’s favorite activity together was watching movies. Lorrie was a voracious reader, and she instilled a love of reading in her two sons.
