Freda Hoss, 90, of Le Mars passed away on Friday, December 12, 2014 at Park Place Estates in Le Mars. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 15, 2014 at All Saints Catholic Parish-St. Joseph Church in Le Mars. Father Kevin Richter will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 14, 2014 at St. Joseph Church. A Catholic Daughter’s Rosary will begin at 4:00 p.m. with a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church on Monday prior to Mass.
Freda Irene Hoss was born on February 21, 1924 in Wynot, Nebraska to John and Rose (Schulte) Hochstein. She attended school at Holy Trinity School in Hartington, Nebraska and graduated from St. Bernards Academy in Nebraska City, Nebraska in 1941. After receiving her education, Freda worked in the office at Cudahy Packing Company in Sioux City, Iowa where she met the love of her life, Donald Hoss.
On October 2, 1945, Freda and Don were united in marriage at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wynot. They made their home on a farm west of Le Mars, Iowa where Freda assisted with farming and they raised their children. In 1981, Freda and Don moved to Le Mars but remained active in farming.
Freda was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. She was active in Catholic Daughters, Christian Mothers and was a longtime choir member. In her spare-time she enjoyed golfing, gardening and playing cards. Freda also sang with Siouxland Sals Quartet. She volunteered at the Postal Playhouse and as an election poll worker.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Kate Hoss of Omaha, NE, Janet Cleary of Prescott, WI, Mary Ellen Sabers and her husband Joe of Ames, IA; sons, Jerry Hoss and his wife Nancy of Akron, IA and John Hoss of Le Mars, IA; 11 Grandchildren; 4 Step-Grandchildren; 5 Great-Grandchildren and 8 Step-Great Grandchildren; a sister, Delores Abbott of Eugene, OR; a brother, Don and Elaine Hochstein of Hartington, NE; sisters-in-law, Marcella (Mrs. John) Hochstein of Wayne, NE and Lorraine Ruden of Le Mars, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don on July 22, 2013; sisters, Viola (Ray) Lammers, Ruth (Irvin) Huennekens, Rosine (Roman) Pinkelman, Sister Rose Jean (Valerie) Hochstein and Mary Louise (Ralph) Wieseler; brothers, Lawrence (Cecilia), Reynold, Gilbert (Marie), Fritz (Zita) and John; and a brother-in-law, B.J. Abbott.
