Marcus, Iowa – Margaret B. Mc Queen, 96, of Marcus, Iowa passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2008 at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus. Rev. Gary McDonough will officiate. Burial will follow at Grand Meadow Cemetery, rural Washta, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at the Earnest – Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service scheduled for 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral on Wednesday.
Margaret Belleisle Morton was born on November 13, 1912 in rural Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Agnes (Hoyt) Morton. She graduated from Union High School in 1930 and later attended Western Union (Westmar) College in Le Mars. Following her education, Margaret moved to Sioux City, Iowa.
On May 28, 1935 Margaret and Donald Mc Queen were united in marriage at her parents’ home. The couple made their home on the Mc Queen family farm in the Grand Meadow area. Along with raising her family, Margaret assisted Donald with farming and was a 4-H leader. She was very active in the Meadow Star United Methodist Church. She sang in the choir and participated in United Methodist Women activities. In 1992, Margaret and Donald moved to Marcus and joined Grace United Methodist Church. She and Donald were avid gardeners and Margaret was a charter member of her garden club. They also enjoyed singing in the church choir. Margaret knitted and crocheted countless items for many mission groups and community outreach programs. She was well known for her cooking and baking.
She will be lovingly remembered by a daughter Carol Long of Altoona, Iowa and her children Donna and David Reed of Des Moines, Iowa and Byron and Stephanie Long of Iowa; a daughter Elaine and Roger Leavitt of Marcus, Iowa and their children Katherine and Henry Ford of Waterloo, Iowa and Tom and Becky Leavitt of Marcus, Iowa; a daughter Gail and Richard Korn of Wayne, Nebraska; and a daughter Nancy and Steve Galigan of Marcus, Iowa; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister Phyllis Bolton of Park Rapids, Minnesota; and a sister-in-law Mildred Morton of Le Mars, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald; a great-grandson Isaiah “Pooter”; and a brother John Morton.
