William 'Bill' Foley, 98 of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2026 at Siena Hills Assisted Living in Ankeny, Iowa.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 22, 2026 at All Saints Parish - St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday at the church. Arrangements are with Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. Expressions of sympathy may be expressed to the family through www.mauerjohnsonfh.com.
William Francis Foley was born on January 18, 1928 in Le Mars, Iowa to William and Elizabeth (Therens) Foley. Bill was raised in Le Mars; he was a lifelong member of St. James Catholic Church and he graduated from Le Mars Community High School.
Bill worked as a typesetter at the Le Mars Daily Sentinel and then the Sioux City Journal. In the late 1970s he went back to school and attended WIT College in Sioux City where he learned electrical work. Bill then owned and operated Foley Electric until he retired at the age of 62.
Bill was united in marriage to Lorraine Louise Josephine Rolfes on May 19, 1959, in Le Mars. They made their home in Le Mars and together had two children: William III, and Mary. Cindy, Bill's first daughter, joined the family in 2004.
Bill was active in the Le Mars Rotary Club and was even awarded the Paul Harris Fellow. Bill enjoyed tinkering with computers, taking photography and target shooting. He and Lorraine also enjoyed traveling and took many trips together.
Bill is survived by his three children: Cindy (Blake) Gillman of Mesa, AZ, William Foley III of Wichita, KS, and Mary (Doug Balvanz) Foley Balvanz of Ankeny, IA; three grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sister in law, Sister Fidelis M. Rolfes of Chicago, IL; great friend, Denny Ernst; several nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents; wife of 64 years, Lorraine; sisters: Dorothy (Hilton 'Red') Pecks and Jean (Oscar) Scjodt; brother, Milton 'Bud' Foley; sisters in law: Lucy (Leslie) Gralapp and Rita (Walter) Niehus; nieces: Darlene (Donald) Lansink and Diana Gralapp; and nephews: Michael Rolfes, David (Lynn) Pecks, Evon (Nancee) Gralapp, Tom Niehus, and Douglas Niehus.
