Verle D. Allen, 85, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Monday, August 30, 2021, at Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars. A Memorial Service will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 2, 2021, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Rev. Christian Meier will officiate. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the memorial service on Thursday.
Verle Dean Allen was born on August 10, 1936, in Quimby, Iowa, the son of Ralph J. and Iva Mae (Nafe) Allen. He attended school at Cleghorn, Iowa until transferring to Le Mars, Iowa for his senior year, graduating from Le Mars Community High School in 1955. Following graduation, Verle farmed until enlisting in the Untied States Army. He served in the states and overseas in Korea as an aircraft mechanic. He earned an Honorable Discharge in 1961.
Verle returned to Le Mars and became a manager of the Deep Rock Station. He was a skilled auto mechanic and worked for several automobile dealerships prior to establishing his own auto mechanic business.
Verle and Kay (Wensel) Elliott were united in marriage on June 1, 1974, and made their home in Le Mars. He was skilled with his hands and was always involved in remodeling and home projects that occupied much of his time. He enjoyed traveling and his family made many trips to California. Verle was a kind and caring stepfather to his two boys and grandchildren. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars.
Grateful to have shared his life is his wife, Kay Allen of Le Mars, IA; two sons, Todd Elliott of Le Mars, IA and Greg Elliott and his wife, Julie of Orange City, IA; grandchildren, Kim (Adam) Staab, Joshua Elliott, Carmen and Teresa Elliott, Mao Elliott, Victoria Elliott, Annalise Elliott and Micah Elliott; three great-grandchildren, Raya, Ellie and Josie Staab; a brother and sister-in-law, Lowell and Elaine Allen of Cherokee, IA; sisters-in-law, Sally (Ron) Martinez of Ontario, CA and Peggy (Larry) Blitz of Sacramento, CA; and many treasured nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Reva; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Max and Mary Alice Allen and Claire and Phyllis Allen.
