Thomas 'Tom' Jerome Conover was born on July 12, 1955 in Sioux City, Iowa to Jerry and Betty (Gruis) Conover. As a young boy, Tom had a great love of the military and his country. He spent hours lining up his army of toy soldiers and staging battles with them. He used his model airplanes and sent squadrons out to shoot down the Red Baron. He had a wonderful imagination.
Tom graduated from North High School in Sioux City, in 1974 and it was no surprise that he immediately joined the United States Air Force. He left in June of 1974 for basic training at Lackland Airforce Base in San Antonio, Texas. He was first stationed in California at Edwards Air Force Base before being transferred to Hessisch- Olendorf Air Station in Germany, McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, KS, Upper Heyford in England, and then back to Edwards Air Force Base in California.
During one of Tom's overseas transfers, he met Nittaya 'Pon' Ditchareon. They were married on January 13, 1978. They had one son, Jerry W. Conover II, and they later divorced.
In Tom's civilian life, he worked for Gerkin Windows, Advance Brands, Wells Enterprises, and the United States Postal Service. He also served in the Air National Guard 185th refueling wing.
While working for Wells', Tom traveled to the Philippines and met the love of his life, Jocelyn Kapungan. They were united in marriage on April 12, 2002. They had one daughter, Jacquelyn LaVonne Conover.
After Tom retired, he went back to college to receive a degree in accounting with a 4.0 GPA. Unfortunately, his health declined and he was unable to use the degree he worked so hard for.
Tom had a fun-loving personality; he was the jokester of the group. He loved to make people laugh and treasured time spent with his family and friends Whenever Tom entered the front door, he stopped, threw his arms in the air and said, "I'm home, how are you"? For his siblings birthdays he used his "lounge lizard" voice and sang Happy Birthday. He just wanted to make them smile. He enjoyed watching FOX news and was a big fan of anything Star Wars and Batman. Tom was a very proud supporter of President Donald Trump and was so happy to see Trump receive a 2nd term in office.
Tom is survived by his wife, Jocelyn; son, Jerry (Rosalina) Conover and their children: Cassidy, Arya and Logan; daughter, Jacquelyn Conover; mother, Betty Conover; siblings: Teryl (Philip) Ahlers, Charles (Terri) Conover, and Christopher (Dawn) Conover; special friends, Mick McCuddin; cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Tom is preceded in death by his father, Jerry; paternal grandparents, Melvin and Fern Conover; and maternal grandparents, Bert and Dorothy Gruis and multiple aunts, uncles & cousins.
