Obituary for Stanley Orlan Nervig Stanley O. Nervig, 85, of Marcus passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Heartland Care Center in Marcus. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 5, 2015 at Grace Untied Methodist Church in Marcus. Rev. Ron Rice will officiate. Burial will follow at Marcus Amherst Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by F.I. Goodburn Post #517 of the American Legion. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 4, 2015 at the Earnest – Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus. The family will be present from 3-5 p.m. with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral on Monday. Honorary pallbearers will be Dean Nervig, Dennis Nervig, Richard Nervig, David Nervig, Gordon Roese and Kenneth Ogren. Pallbearers will be Stan's eight grandchildren.

Stanley Orlan Nervig was born on July 30, 1930 on the family farm near Hardy, Iowa to Omen and Irma Nervig. He attended country school and later graduated from Renwick High School. Stan furthered his education at Iowa State University and, in 1951, received a degree in business/forestry. On January 16, 1952, he was inducted into the United States Army. He proudly served as an ordinance battle specialist and attained the rank of corporal prior to earning and honorable discharge on December 17, 1953.

On January 24, 1954, Stan and Joyce Downing were united in marriage at Le Mars, Iowa. Stan was employed at the Farmers State Bank in Marcus from 1956 to 1993. He also served on the board of directors at Heartland Care Center and the West Iowa Banc Corp from 1988 to 2009. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus. Stan and Joyce enjoyed spending over 20 years of winters in Mesa, Arizona at VDO.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Joyce of Marcus, IA; daughters, Barbara and Mike Knutson of Marcus, IA, Beverly and Jim Shirbroun of Ames, IA and Marilyn Whitney of Urbandale, IA; grandchildren, Alison and Barrett Toland of Woodbury, MN, Mark and Jenny Shirbroun of Des Moines, IA, Greg Shirbroun of Bloomington, IN, David Shirbroun of Mission, SD, Lauren and AJ Wilcox of Johnston, IA, Amanda and Tyler Smith of Johnston, IA and Mikayla Whitney and Samantha Whitney both of Urbandale, IA; 5 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Joyce Nervig of Humboldt, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Ed Nervig.
