Obituary for Ruby Ester Grosenheider Le Mars, IA – Ruby E. Grosenheider, 93, of Le Mars, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 25, 2016 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Rev. Dr. Jean Ziettlow and Rev. Chris Meier will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 24 at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5-7 with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church on Monday prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Mark Grosenheider, Paul Vander Meer, Mike Vander Meer, Pete Vander Meer, Casey Grosenheider and Austin Vander Meer.

Ruby Ester Bell was born on June 9, 1922 on the family farm in Union Township, Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Laura (Kehler) Bell. She was raised there with her three brothers and three sisters. After graduating from Union High School, Ruby moved to Le Mars, Iowa and worked as a secretary. It was in Le Mars that she met the love of her life, Alvin Grosenheider.

Ruby and Alvin were united in marriage on September 29, 1945 in Le Mars. They lived in Le Mars where they raised their three children, Barbara, Alvin and Mark. Ruby worked at Le Mars Mutual Insurance Company for 27 years. Alvin passed away on April 21, 1995. Ruby remained in Le Mars and moved to Plymouth Manor Care Center on October 28, 2009.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Ruby enjoyed knitting, gardening and visiting with neighbors and friends. She and her family spent summers at Lake Shetek in Minnesota. She always had a kind word and a warm hug for those she met. Most of all, Ruby cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is lovingly remembered by her two sons, Alvin and Elizabeth Grosenheider of Eveleth, Minnesota and Mark Grosenheider of Le Mars, Iowa; five grandchildren, Paul, Michael, Peter, Amy and Casey; 12 great-grandchildren, a son-in-law, Tom Vander Meer of Ellinwood, Kansas; sisters-in-law, Florence Grosenheider, Margaret Grosenheider and Arlene (Bill) Grady all of Le Mars, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; husband Alvin; a daughter, Barbara Vander Meer on August 19, 2013; sisters, Margaret, Laura and Mary; and brothers, John, Peter and William.
