Obituary

Ronald Ommen, 86, of Le Mars, Iowa, died Sunday, December 7, 2025, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Pastor Mike McInnis from the Methodist Church of Le Mars will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family will be from 12:00 p.m. until service time and following the service during a time of fellowship, all at the funeral home. Arrangements are with the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.mauerjohnsonfh.com .

In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials can be made to Wet-Nose Rescue in Le Mars.

Ronald Gene Ommen, the son of Henry and Anna (Asseln) Ommen, was born on February 18, 1939, in Cherokee, Iowa. At a young age, he moved with his family to Le Mars. He attended school and graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1958.

After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He served for a few years before receiving his honorable discharge.

He was united in marriage to Carla Vande Berg on May 6, 1961. The couple made their home in Le Mars. Ron went to work for the United States Postal Service where he worked for over 38 years. He owned and operated a golf club repair business in Le Mars for the past 35 years. After his retirement from the postal service, he went to work for Motor Inn and later for Total Motors as a detailer.

Ron had a love for the game of golf. He spent many days out on the golf course. He also had a soft spot in his heart for animals, especially his cats. He enjoyed taking family vacations to California and Colorado and enjoyed Sunday visits with his family. In recent years, he gained a love for cooking.

Survivors include his wife, Carla from Le Mars, IA; a son, Todd (Tamara Raridon) Ommen of Omaha, NE, and their daughter, Erin (Andrew) Soper and their children, Anna and Lily; a son, Chris (Melissa) Ommen of Hinton, IA, and their children: Krista (Garrett) Van Buskirk and their children, Murphy and Rossi, and Kara (Douglas) Gengler; a daughter, Andra (Myk Efthimiou) Ommen of Franklin Square, NY; a brother, Jerry Ommen of Tama, IA; and many other beloved family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Anna Ommen; his sister, Arlene (Homer) Lind; and a sister-in-law, Carol Ommen.
