Obituary for Ronald Vincent Kelly Ronald Kelly, 89, of Le Mars passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at Brentwood Good Samaritan Village in Le Mars. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2015 at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. Joseph Church in Le Mars, Iowa. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2015 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Friday.
Ronald Vincent Kelly was born on December 26, 1925 in Le Mars, Iowa, one of six children born to Roy M. and Viola (Fisch) Kelly. He attended St. Catherine Catholic School in Oyens, Iowa and later attended Le Mars Community High School. During his senior year, immediately after his 17th birthday, Ron moved to Alaska and took a position with Lytle and Green Construction Company constructing the Alcan Highway. He returned seven months later and enlisted in the United States Navy. Ron received his basic training at Great Lakes Naval Training Center. Following boot camp he was assigned to an aviation radio school in Indianapolis and then to a naval air station in Seattle where he specialized in Morse Code messaging.
On one of his return trips from the Navy, Ron met Mary Ann Weber. The couple dated during the time Ron was in the Navy. After earning his Honorable Discharge, Ron and Mary Ann were united in marriage on May 22, 1946 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. Ron worked with St. Clair-Kovaleske Clothing for 13 years. He then started Town and Country Drive Inn in 1962. Ron sold the drive inn and began his longtime career with Farm Bureau. Throughout the years he earned many trips and awards and he and Mary Ann traveled throughout the United States and Europe.
Ron was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. He was also a member of Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion. He and Mary Ann enjoyed refinishing and restoring antique furniture along with spending winters in Mesa, Arizona.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children, David Kelly of Le Mars, IA, Ann Kelly of Eugene, OR, Kevin Kelly of Maui, HI, Jeanmarie Kelly and her husband Tom of North Aurora, IL and Jane Kelly-Forret and her husband Mike of Ankeny, IA; grandchildren, Jason Kelly, Justin Kelly, Tess Kelly-Forret, Camille Kelly-Forret, Catherine Houlihan, Andrea Houlihan, Kevin Houlihan, Mary Houlihan, Monique Kelly, Lewis Kelly, Christopher Kelly and Matthew Kelly, several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary Ann on September 16, 2011; son, Paul on March 13, 2014; sisters, Norma Dominick, Dorothy Cook and Mary Kneip; brothers, George and Eldon Kelly.
