Ronald A. June, 71, of Merrill, Iowa passed away on Monday, January 14, 2019 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa following a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Rev. Timothy Geitz will officiate. Burial with military honors will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Merrill. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Ronald Allen June was born on December 25, 1947 in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Melvin and Lillian (Johnson) June. He attended grade school in Merrill, Iowa and high school in Le Mars, Iowa. Following high school, Ron was drafted into the United States Army on August 6, 1968. He proudly served in Vietnam until earning an honorable discharge on August 5, 1970. He married Colleen Leyh and together they had a daughter, Misti. He later married Marilyn Bylsma and they had April, Brent and Jonathan.
Ron began a lifelong career in construction when he returned from Vietnam. He was a master carpenter, concrete worker and plumber. Ron built houses throughout the area and also worked on some highway crews pouring concrete. His greatest work was refurbishing the stone and concrete work at the Coad house in Le Mars. He was a perfectionist when it came to his work.
Ron enjoyed fishing and was a sprint car racing fan. He enjoyed music and attended several shows at area fairs and bluegrass festivals. In his retirement years, attending auctions was his main priority.
He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Misti (Bill) Osterkamp of Hawarden, IA; a daughter, April Villegas of Sioux City, IA, sons, Brent June of Sioux City, IA and Jonathan (Holly) June of McCook, Lake, SD; 11 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a special friend, Patricia Gail Garner of Merrill, IA; a brother, Kenny June of Merrill, IA; sister, Darlene (Denny) Pieper of Sioux Center, IA; and brothers, Rodney June of Boyden, IA and Denis (Rose) June of Alden, IA; his best friend, Mike Lindsey of Merrill, IA; along with several nieces and nephews.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Allen June; and a sister, Sharon Dorhout.
