Robert (Bob) Albert Pick was born May 29, 1942, to Arthur and Frances (Determann) Pick. Growing up, Bob attended Union Township school. After the passing of his father, Bob and his mother moved to Le Mars, where he attended and graduated from Gehlen High School in 1960. Not long after graduation, Bob met his lifelong love, Karen Trometer, on a blind date. The two married on November 21, 1962, at St James Catholic Church in Le Mars. To their union, three children were born. Bradley, Michele, and Stacie. Throughout the years, Bob and Karen were always there to support their children at their activities, including games and concerts too numerous to count. As their children grew older, Bob and Karen enjoyed camping in the summer months at Okoboji with family and friends. They also spent many years cheering for the Le Mars Bulldogs or traveling to Iowa City to root for the University of Iowa Football team. When home, Saturday evenings were always "date nights"; they would attend church service as members of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars and then go out for dinner. He also became a Kansas City Chiefs fan and enjoyed watching the Chiefs. His other hobbies included woodworking and smoking meats.
Bob's dedication to family was there throughout his life and into retirement. Later in life, Bob cared for Karen at home until she moved to Happy Siesta Health Care Center. Even then, Bob spent nearly every day with her. He would often bake banana bread that he would share with the staff who cared for her. His dedication to her continued after her passing in June of 2020. He meticulously cared for her grave with his dog, Georgie, his companion, at his side every day that the weather allowed. He was sure to place and nurture beautiful flowers near her every spring.
Bob's professional life began after graduation. He spent time in the Army Reserve, worked various jobs in Le Mars and Hinton before beginning a 35-year career in the fertilizer business. Again, Bob showed great dedication to his work. He worked many long hours to provide the highest level of service he could to his customers to make sure that their needs were met. In addition to his work in the fertilizer business, Bob enjoyed driving truck for Wagner Trucking and helping his brother-in-law with their harvests.
Survivors include his three children: Bradley (Kaylyn) Pick of Le Mars, Michele (Tom) Berkenpas of Le Mars, and Stacie (Todd) Akkerman of Sioux Falls. South Dakota. His grandchildren are Channing (Zach)Kiminski, Payton (Kaylee) Pick, Alexandra Pick, Ellaina Pick (Jude Dougherty), Cole (Stephanie) Berkenpas and their daughter, Eleanor, Brook Berkenpas (Grant Koerner), Evan Berkenpas (fiancé, Audra Witmer), Carter Akkerman, and Emily Akkerman; his in-laws, Sandra Pick of Correctionville, IA, Rosie Pick of Le Mars, Eileen Kolker of Merrill, IA, and Ivan (Marilyn) Trometer of Willis, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Karen Pick; and his siblings: Rosemary (Francis)Miller, Leo (Carole) Pick, Don (Helen) Pick, Cletus 'Bud' Pick, and Jake Pick.
