Rita M. Wiederholt, 91, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Monday, January 10, 2022, at Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 17, 2022 at All Saints Catholic Parish-St. Joseph Church in Le Mars. Father Bruce Lawler will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Remsen, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 16, 2022 at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. There will be a Rosary at 5 p.m. with a scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church before Mass.
Rita Wiederholt was born on a farm north of Oyens, Iowa on March 14, 1930 to Peter and Minnie (Meis) Delperdang. She was raised on that farm and attended grade school at St. Catherine's School in Oyens. She then went to St. Joseph's School, now Gehlen Catholic, in Le Mars, where she graduated in 1947. Following graduation, Rita worked at Well's Dairy in production for one year and then worked for 3 years at Le Mars Savings Bank.
Rita and Urban Wiederholt were united in marriage on April 17, 1950 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. After their marriage, they farmed the home place north of Oyens for 13 years and then moved into Oyens where they lived for 37 years before moving to Le Mars in 2000. Urban passed away in 2005.
After her children were in upper grade elementary and high school, Rita worked at K-Products in Le Mars and Orange City, Iowa for 9 years. Then Rita began working at Fareway Grocery in Le Mars. She later went to work cleaning houses. Her greatest pastime was playing cards. She belonged to several card clubs, the Senior Center, St. Joseph Catholic Church and Christian Mothers. Rita volunteered at church helping with funeral dinners.
Rita will be lovingly remembered by her children; Mark (Crystal Whitmore) Wiederholt of Moville, IA, Mary Ellen Cabeen of Le Mars, IA and Theresa (Dean Jones) Nilles of Knoxville, IA; grandchildren, Carrie (Steve) Pinkerton of Des Moines, IA, Chad (Tiffany) Nilles of Appleton, WI, Jessica (Chris) Steffens of Le Mars, IA, Jennifer (Jason) Kuiken of Le Mars, IA and Travis (Kristina) DeLaney of Knoxville, IA; great-grandchildren, Coultan and Blayton Nilles, Jason Stobs, Natalia, Brady, Ethan and Emily Kuiken, Lydia and Parker Steffens, Jazmine and Autumn DeLaney, Aurora, Zander and Jacob Flemming; her sister, Sister Janet Delperdang of Sinsinawa, WI; and several nieces and nephews.
Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Urban; her parents; an infant brother, Nikolis Delperdang; sisters, Mildred (Joe) Kinney, Dorothy (Robert) Konz; and her brothers, Ralph (Dorothy) Delperdang and Francis (Rita) Delperdang.
