Richard Williams, 92, of Merrill, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Accura Healthcare of Sioux City, Iowa.
Celebration of Life Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa. Pastor James Travis and Pastor Alex Smith will officiate. Burial will be at Liberty/Perry Township Cemetery, rural Hinton, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.mauerjohnsonfh.com.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials can be made the Gospel Mission in Sioux City and Wet-Nose Rescue in Le Mars.
Richard Scott Williams, the son of Earl and Laura (Smith) Williams, was born on July 1, 1933, in Sioux City, Iowa. He attended school in Hinton and graduated from Hinton High School.
He was united in marriage to Jean Smith on February 6, 1955, in Mission Hills, South Dakota. They move to Los Angeles, California. Shortly thereafter, he was drafted into the United States Army. He served his country during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to California.
After a short time in California, they returned to NW Iowa and began farming in Plymouth County, Iowa. Richard also worked for International Harvester in Sioux City. Following his retirement, they continued to make their home on the farm. Jean passed away on April 5, 2004.
Richard married Beverly Hedges Sitzmann-Cason on December 30, 2013.
He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa. Richard enjoyed fishing, camping, woodworking, and feeding the birds and cats. He also enjoyed tinkering in his garage. He could build or repair just about anything.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly of Merrill, IA; a son, Larry Williams of Merrill, IA; his step children: Guy (Nancy) Sitzmann, Rodney (Kathy) Sitzmann, Steve (Deon) Sitzmann, Jamie (Barb) Sitzmann, and Lynette (Frank) Harvey; a step daughter in law, Deb Sitzmann; his brothers, Paul Williams of Correctionville, IA, and Gary (Joyce) Williams of Le Mars, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean Williams; a son, Scott Williams; a stepson, Craig Sitzmann; his siblings: John Williams, Lester Williams, Howard Williams, Jean Woodruff, Doris Williams, Daryl Williams, and Melvin Williams; and his faithful companion, "Buddy".
