Phillip 'Phil' Landis, 71, of Le Mars, Iowa, peacefully passed away on Friday, April 4, 2025, at his home in Le Mars.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Pastor Luke Cargin will officiate. Burial with military honors provided by the Wasmer American Legion Post 241 of Le Mars will be at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Phillip Calvin Landis, the son of James and Betty (Hoskins) Landis, was born on January 15, 1954, in Akron, Ohio. He grew up in Akron where he attended school.
He enlisted in the United States Army on January 21, 1971. He spent 3 years stationed in Germany during the Vietnam Conflict. While in the service, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Lewis on January 17, 1972. Phil was honorably discharged in December of 1977. Following his discharge they moved to Le Mars.
Phil worked for over 20 years at Culligan Maytag in Le Mars as an appliance repairman. He later went to work in maintenance for Wells in Le Mars. He also worked part time for Fuel n More in Le Mars.
He was a member of the Wasmer American Legion Post 241 in Le Mars where he was a Past Commander. He also volunteered with the Boy Scouts. He loved being outdoors and woodworking. He was a handyman that could fix just about anything. His greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann of Le Mars; his children: Kathie (Chad) McDermott of Breda, IA, Frederick (Kristi) Landis of George, IA, Angela (Robert) Von Hagel of Le Mars; Stephanie (Jeff) Gengler of Merrill, IA, and Stacey (Matthew) Galles of Remsen, IA; 14 grandchildren: Calvin McDermott (fiancé, Erika), Dawson McDermott, Aaron McDermott, Alexis Landis, Austin Landis, Conner Von Hagel, Emily Von Hagel, Heather Von Hagel, Brandon Gengler, Brooklyn Gengler, Bracyn Gengler, Kaden Galles, Karsen Galles, and Kenten Galles; his siblings: David (Sandy) Landis of Galeon, OH, Sharon (Sam) Bagozzi of Sherrodsville, OH, and Joanne Landis of Silver Lake, OH; and several in laws, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother in law, Neil and Eleanor Lewis; and his siblings: Frederick Landis, James (Carolyn) Landis, Diane Landis, and Barbara (Bob) Lynch.
