Omar Ersland

Omar Ersland, 95, of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at his residence.

Service: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at Olson Funeral and Cremation in Fergus Falls, with visitation one-hour prior to the service. Pastor Nick Preston will officiate. Arrangements in Fergus Falls are with the Olson Funeral and Cremation in Fergus Falls.

Graveside: 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 1, 2026 at Le Mars Memorial Cemetery, Le Mars, IA. Arrangements in Le Mars are with the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Omar Wayne Ersland was born September 16, 1931, to Gaspard and Shirley (Gunsell) Ersland in Red Lake Falls, MN. He attended elementary school in Kanawha, IA and Clarion High School in Iowa, graduating in 1951. He attended Luther College, St. Cloud State University, and Moorhead State University. Omar earned his Master's Degree in 1955.

On June 16, 1960 Omar married Darlene Mausling in Fairmount, MN. Together they had three children.

He spent 34 years teaching in public education in Jesup, IA, Truman, Wayzata, Annandale, and Fergus Falls, MN. He taught high school Social Studies, retiring in 1989. Omar was head wresting coach for 23 years.

Omar was a member of 4-H, Civil Defense, NEA, and MEA Activities. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, truck driving for Charles Kvare.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Darlene' his father, Gaspard Ersland; his mother, Shirley Lundgren; step-father, Allen Lundgren, and his brother, Richard Ersland.

Omar is survived by his children, Kelly (Roger) Ersland, Carol Ersland, and Jeff (Mary) Ersland; grandchildren, Bjorn and Ian Anderson and Jacob, Blake, and Isabelle Ersland, and two great-grandchildren, Cedrick Anderson and Freyia Anderson.
