Obituary for Marjorie Mae Franke Marjorie M. Franke, 87, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Friday, July 17, 2015 at the Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2015 at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Rev. Timothy Geitz will officiate. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2015 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 6-8 p.m. with a prayer service scheduled at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service on Monday.
Marjorie Mae Franke was born on July 13, 1928, near Ireton, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer and Helma (Heidbrink) Franke. She grew up and attended school in Ireton. She later attended Westmar College in Le Mars where she received her education degree. She began her lifelong career in education at a country school in Reading Township, Sioux County, Iowa. She then took a position in Clear Lake, Iowa before returning to Le Mars.
Marjorie taught Kindergarten and Head Start in the Le Mars School District for many years. She retired from teaching in 1989. Marjorie also served on the school board from 1991 to 2008. During her retirement years, she volunteered her time by reading stories to area Kindergarten classes, often times dressing up as the characters. She also helped staff the school house in the Pioneer Village at the Plymouth County Fair.
She will be lovingly remembered by her brother and his wife, Dean and Janet Franke of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; two brothers-in-law, Craig Bolin of Clarksville, Iowa and Gaylord Klessig of Colorado Springs, Colorado; four nephews and a niece.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Daryl; sisters, Marilyn Bolin and Marlys Klessig.
Memorials may be directed to the Le Mars Community School District Foundation for scholarships.
