Margaret M. Koerner, 77, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at MercyOne in Sioux City, Iowa. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 21, 2024, at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Rev. Steven Broers of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home. The family will be present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the funeral home prior to the service on Monday.

Margaret MaryAnn Koerner was born on December 24, 1946, in Orange City, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and LuVerna (Kots) Kramer. She graduated from Maurice Orange City High School. On December 3, 1965, Margaret and Alfred VanVoorst were united in marriage in Vermillion, South Dakota. They made their home in Marcus, Iowa. After Alfred passed away in a work accident, Margaret moved to Le Mars, Iowa, where she began a career in the dietary department at Plymouth Life.

On May 11, 1975, Margaret married Melvin Koerner in Vermillion, South Dakota. She continued her work at Plymouth Life until her retirement. Melvin passed away on August 27, 1991.

The most important thing in Margaret's life was her family and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed crafting, jewelry and getting her hair and nails done. She hosted several home interior parties and had a knack for decorating. In the summertime, you would find her in the flower garden.

Grateful to have shared her life are her children, Doug VanVoorst of Le Mars, IA, Diane (Brian) Kraft of Cherokee, IA, Terry VanVoorst of Remsen, IA, Michelle Koerner of Le Mars, IA, Shawn (Bruce Matlock) Koerner of Le Mars, IA and Angie (Brittney) Koerner of Le Mars, IA; a special friend, Larry Steward of Cherokee, IA; her siblings, Glenda (Gary) Habben of Le Mars, IA, Arlene Luft of Le Mars, IA, Henry (Sharon) Kramer of Ireton, IA, Sharon Poeckes of Le Mars, IA and Twilla Kramer of Le Mars, IA; and grandchildren, great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and LuVerna; husbands, Alfred and Melvin; a son, Brad VanVoorst; a brother, Lee Kramer; and two brothers-in-law, Larry Luft and Paul Poeckes.
