Obituary for Lowell Steien Lowell Steien, 89, of Kingsley, formerly of Sioux City, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at the Westwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sioux City, Iowa. A Memorial Service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at the Johnson – Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Bernard Lowell Steien was born on December 12, 1925 in South Dakota, the son of Bernard and Edna (Van Buskirk) Steien. He was raised and attended school in the Moville and Kingsley, Iowa area.
His career in earthwork began at an early age. He was employed by his uncle Lee. He worked for Lee until he passed away. Lowell then went to work for Gary Bruce in Moville. Lowell and Darlene were united in marriage at Elk Point, South Dakota. They made their home in Kingsley, Iowa and Sioux City, Iowa. Lowell did terrace work for many years before retiring. During his retirement years, Lowell enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He fished and always had his loyal companions, his Shih Tzu dogs, with him.
He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Deborah (Michael) Tague of Sioux City, IA; a son, Terry Orr (Vicky Schwedler) of Sioux City, IA; grandchildren, Chad (Lori) Tague, Danielle (Patrick) Hohenfield, Jay Junior Schwedler , Raymond Schwedler and Abby (Mrs. Josh) Schwedler; great-grandchildren, Mariah, Cody, Brianna, Miranda, Tatiana, Tricia, Alex, Keagan and Aiden; a sister, Bev Lemke of Paullina, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Darlene on November 20, 2013; son, Emmett (Mary) Orr; a granddaughter, Shauntelle Orr; and a grandson, Josh Schwedler; a sister Sally Johnson and two brothers, Carl Steien and Roy Steien.
