Lorraine Foley, 91, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Monday, January 29, 2024, at her home in Le Mars. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at All Saints Catholic Parish - St. James Church in Le Mars. Father Doug Klein will officiate. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a Scriptural Prayer Service at 5:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Thursday.
Lorraine Louise Josephine Rolfes Foley was born on April 25, 1932, in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Greis) Rolfes. She graduated from St. Joseph's High School in 1951. Lorraine furthered her education and received a degree from the Mercy School Nursing in Sioux City as a Registered Nurse. She worked for many years as a nurse at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars. She also served on the Le Mars Ambulance as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) on the first EMT crew.
Lorraine and William Foley were united in marriage on May 19, 1959, in Le Mars, Iowa. Lorraine was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars where she served on the Altar Society. She enjoyed being a nurse and taking care of others, reunions with nursing classmates, cooking, bowling league, trips to Germany and Ireland, several bus trips and traveling with their gang.
Grateful to have shared her life is her husband of 64 years, William "Bill" Foley of Le Mars, IA; her children, Cindy (Blake) Gillman of Mesa, AZ, William Foley, III of Wichita, KS and Mary (Doug Balvanz) Foley Balvanz of Ankeny, IA; three grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; a sister, Sister Fidelis M. Rolfes of Chicago, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters and their husbands, Lucy (Leslie) Gralapp and Rita (Walter) Niehus; a brother, Gunter Rolfes; two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Dorothy (Hilton "Red") Pecks and Jean (Oscar) Schjodt; brother-in-law, Milton "Bud" Foley; nieces, Darlene (Donald) Lansink and Diana Gralapp; and nephews, Michael Rolfes, David (Lynn) Pecks and Evon (Nancee) Gralapp.
