Loren Howard Harrington was born on January 20, 1948 in Iowa City, Iowa. He was raised by his parents, Farrel "Fuzz" and Mathilda "Tillie" (Siebens) Harrington, near Brunsville and he attended schools in Merrill and Le Mars.

He worked as a farmhand and did some trucking for a few years before he began working full time at Wells Milk Plant. Loren worked there for almost 30 years before he retired. Loren had a passion to serve his community and did so as a volunteer firefighter for the Le Mars Fire Department for 17 years. He continued to collect fire department models and memorabilia.

Loren had an outgoing personality, and he enjoyed being at community events where he would dress in character. He wore buckskins, portraying an 1880's mountain man, in many parades and re-enactments; he also dressed up as Santa Claus at Christmas and variety of costumes at Halloween. Loren was member of Rock Solid Assembly Church in Le Mars.

Loren also had a love of travel and the outdoors. He enjoyed driving his Ford Excursion to the Black Hills, Yellowstone, Tetons, Glacier, Minnesota Boundary Waters, and Nebraska's state parks: Mahoney and Niobrara. He loved to stay at a cabin for weeks at a time to enjoy the scenery and sites. Loren also traveled extensively abroad with his traveling companion, Mary. They went to: China, Kenya, Africa, Europe, Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Southwest Canyonlands, Washington D.C., the Everglades, and a Caribbean cruise to: Aruba, Columbia, Panama, Costa Rica, and Jamaica.

(Karen) Harrington of Le Mars; nieces: Bethene (Joe) Adams of Council Bluffs, IA, and Audra (Brian) Oja of Crystal, MN; great niece: Kathryn (Tim) Warren of Muscatine, IA; and great nephews: Brodie (fiancé, Katherine Duffy) Harrington of Colorado Springs, CO, and Alexander Adams of Council Bluffs, IA.
