Lois Hargens, 97, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at the Good Samaritan Society of Le Mars.

Lois Bertha Joens, the daughter of Walter and Laura (Schroeder) Joens, was born on October 5, 1928, in Westside, Iowa. She grew up near Westside where she attended school. Following her schooling, she helped her family on the farm and worked at an egg factory in Manning, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to Virtus Hargens on January 1, 1948, in Manning, Iowa. Early on, they lived in Manning where Lois was a homemaker for her family. In 1961, they moved to Le Mars, Iowa. Lois went to work at Harker's Distribution in Le Mars. She worked in production for over 25 years until her retirement. Virtus passed away on January 29, 2013, in Le Mars. Lois continued to make her home in Le Mars.

Lois was a member of the United Methodist Church of Le Mars. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling. She also enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles and playing cards. After retirement, she and Virtus enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and overseas.

Survivors include her children: Linda (Darwin) Huls of Le Mars, IA, Larry (Tami) Hargens of Bellevue, NE, Janice (Lon) Sitzmann of Kingsley, IA, and Darrell (Kim) Hargens of Le Mars, IA; a daughter in law, Kathy Hargens of Le Mars, IA; 19 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Virtus Hargens; an infant daughter, Diane Hargens; three sons: James Hargens, Dennis Hargens, and Ronnie Hargens; a grandson, Jeremy Huls; a great grandson, Kaleb Hargens; and four brothers.
