LeRoy P. Schrunk, 86, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. Joseph Church in Le Mars. Father Doug Klein will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph Church.
LeRoy Paul Schrunk was born on August 28, 1937, the son of Otto F. and Frances A. (Sohm) Schrunk on a farm north of Mapleton, Iowa. He attended St. Mary's Grade School and graduated from St. Patrick's High School in Danbury in 1955. LeRoy then attended Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa for 2 years. Following college, he started farming with his father and brothers.
LeRoy and Sally E. Madsen were married on June 6, 1961. They were blessed with seven children. LeRoy farmed for 7 years and then worked for farm implement companies, retiring from Vern Anderson Equipment in Le Mars.
During his retirement years, he enjoyed helping people through his church, Floyd Valley Hospital and as a handyman. LeRoy took up woodworking in his late 50's. He would draw his own plans before creating his projects.
Grateful to have shared his life is his wife of 62 years, Sally Schrunk; his children, Joe (Jan) Schrunk, Tony (Anita) Schrunk, Tim Schrunk, Jeff (Brenda) Schrunk, Dwayne (Mary) Schrunk, LeAnn (Daryl) Friedenbach and Daryl (Lynelle) Schrunk; 15 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brothers, Ace (Mary) Schrunk, Otto Schrunk and Byron (Patti) Schrunk; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Jim (Dixie) Madsen, Paul (Susie) Madsen and Dan Madsen; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Barbara Ann Schrunk and Odelia Schrunk; brothers, John, Bruce and Charlie Schrunk; and sisters-in-law, Kathy Schrunk, Genevieve Schrunk and Kay Madsen.
Memorials in LeRoy's name may be directed to All Saints Catholic Parish.
