Laura Jane
Morris
Mar 1, 1950 — Jan 16, 2025
Pasadena
Laura Jane Morris, 74, of Pasadena, Los Angeles County, California left this world on January 16, 2025. Born on March 1, 1950, in Le Mars, Plymouth County, Iowa to Sylvia Arline Rhodes of Le Mars. Her father, Arthur George Morris of Seattle, King County, Washington was unknown to her.
She lived in various coastal cities in Southern California from 1957 to 1961 with her mother and brother, Ronald. From 1961 through 1968 she lived with her Uncle and Aunt, Wendell and Colleen Rhodes along with Ronald. Laura Jane graduated from East High School of Rockford, Winnebago County, Illinois in 1968. Shortly after graduation, she went back to Southern California to live with her mother Sylvia. While living in Santa Monica area, in 1969 she met Charles Manuel Cureton and in 1970 their son, Charles Kawika Cureton was born.
Laura Jane was talented: she liked to draw, sing and loved to brush her hair. She would peruse The Holy Bible, nod her head in agreement, and point to the words and talk as though she knew every interpretation. Although Laura Jane never got to work for her own money she loved pinching every penny, especially quarters for the soda machine. She would clutch close to her chest a small coin pouch or hold her rolled up dollars in her hand until they were limp and soggy. She was never hesitant to ask for money, over and over again, she loved her Pepsi! She was very quick to assess her own needs, jump up to head that direction to acquire or accomplish something. When asked for a big smile for a 'selfie' she'd grin, as big as ever, laugh and then quickly want to see herself in the instant photo and laugh really loud and shake her head in agreement.
Laura Jane is survived by her son and his wife, Charles and Yadira Cureton of Fort Worth, Texas,: four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; her half sister and her husband, Cindy and Blake Gillman of Mesa, Arizona, their three children and eight nieces and nephews to Laura Jane; her brother and his wife, Ronald and Betty Morris of Stillman, Illinois, their four children and four nieces and nephews to Laura Jane; and the many first cousins and their children.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Sylvia Rhodes Morris (2006); her father, Arthur Morris (2000); grandparents: Thurman Rhodes (1983) and Laura Mae Oldis Rhodes (1932); and all five of her uncles and their wives.
She came from a large family network and in her lifetime, she was a daughter, a sister, a mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother, an aunt, a grand aunt, a granddaughter, a niece, a first and second cousin. She has been missed by many. Heaven's open arms will receive her in love.
