Obituary

Obituary for Larry Arthur Clausen Marcus, Iowa – Larry A. Clausen, 75, of Marcus passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Faith Lutheran Church in Marcus. Rev. Pete Petersen will officiate. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, February 5 with the family present from 5-7 and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the church. A memorial service will also be held on Monday, February 8 at 1:00 p.m. at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, Audubon, Iowa. Burial will follow on Monday at the church cemetery in Audubon. Visitation on Monday will be one hour before service time at the church.

Larry Arthur Clausen was born May 3, 1940 in rural Audubon County, Iowa the son of Arthur and Myrtle (Jensen) Clausen. His childhood years were spent on a farm in Audubon County. He attended Douglas #9, Mt. Zion Country School through eighth grade and then joined his father in farming.

He was united in marriage to Judith K. Winther on November 16, 1963 in Elk Horn, Iowa. To this union five daughters were born. They continued to farm until 1969 when they relocated to Marcus, Iowa. He began driving truck for Ray Juhl for a few years and then owned and operated a corn shelling business. He went on to drive truck for the Marcus Elevator, and also drove bus for the Siouxland Regional Transit System for 25 1/2 years, retiring in 2013.

Larry was well known for his love of antique John Deere tractors. He was an active member of Pioneer Machinery Club, NW Iowa Two-Cylinder Club, and many others. He especially loved participating in the Albert City Thresherman's and Collector's Show, operating his antique threshing machine. Larry spent many summers participating in local tractor rides and parades.

He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church. He loved and appreciated nature and loved all animals, especially his best friend, Pugs. He took pride in his 100% Danish heritage. His favorite saying was "You can always tell a Dane, but you can't tell em' much".

He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters; Sherri (Rick) Harms of Remsen, IA, Jill Clausen of Marcus, IA, Annette Clausen of Butte, MT, Amy Clausen and her special friend, Mike Begnoche of Le Mars, IA, Peg (Tom) Hohbach of Marcus, IA; grandchildren, Toni Harms, Haley Harms, Eli Hohbach & Sophia Hohbach; former wife Judy of Marcus, IA; one sister Mary Jo Blaisdell of Perry, IA; his special friend, Doris Christensen of Audubon, IA; five nieces and two nephews. He will also be lovingly remembered by Wyatt Rassel, who shared his love of all things John Deere.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dallas Clausen.
