Obituary

Obituary for Larry M. Chinn Pierson, Iowa – Larry M. Chinn, 77, of Pierson, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at his home following a brief illness. A graveside service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the Greenwood Cemetery in Pierson. Military honors will be conducted by Harrison F. Pedersen American Legion Post #291.

Laurence Middleton Chinn was born on October 18, 1936 in Pierson, Iowa, the son of Harry and Ruth (Carter) Chinn. He attended grade school in Correctionville, Iowa. On December 4, 1958 Larry was inducted into the United States Army. He proudly served as a heavy vehicle driver and earned his honorable discharge on November 22, 1960.

Following the service, Larry returned to Pierson and took a position with Brown Chevrolet in Cherokee, Iowa. He married Susan (Eaton) Saxen. They were blessed with two boys, Blair and Wade. In 1967, he went to work for the John Deere Implement in Pierson. Susan passed away in April of 1984. He then married Linda Irwin in July of 1986 at the Pierson United Methodist Church. Larry opened his own shop, Chinn's Garage, in 1987. He specialized in farm implement repair and retired in 1998. In his spare time Larry enjoyed fishing, feeding the birds and squirrels and watching golf on television.

Larry will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Linda Chinn of Pierson, IA; two sons, Blair (Karen) Chinn of Graettinger, IA and Wade (RoseAnne) Chinn of Sioux City, IA; grandchildren, Amber, Amanda, Danny and Bryant; great-grandchildren, Brantley and Elizabeth; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; step-children, Blake (Brenda) Saxen of Moville, IA, Marie Saxen of Correctionville, IA and Andy (Ginger) Kleespies of Washta, IA; a sister Doris Anderson of Storm Lake, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Susan; step-sons, Lanny Saxen and David Kleespies; brothers, Eugene and Dale Chinn; and a half-brother, Cecil Bush.
