Obituary

Kenneth W. Harms, 71, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars. A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Father Tom Flanagan will officiate. A private family burial will take place at Assumption Catholic Cemetery in Merrill, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home. The family will be present from 4-7 p.m. with a Rosary at 5:30 p.m.

Kenneth Wayne Harms was born on August 29, 1952, in Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Maurice and Helen (Andersen) Harms. He began his education at Gehlen Catholic Schools and later graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1972. During his high school years, he worked at Hammer's Restaurant in Le Mars.

After graduation, Kenny drove truck for his father. He would later join the business in partnership. Years later he owned and operated his own truck and drove for various companies. His last driving job was with Schuster Trucking, retiring in 2018. While trucking for Schuster's, Ken loved traveling to the states of Wisconsin and Minnesota to buy his lottery tickets, hoping to win big someday.

Kenny loved driving and taking his family and friends on numerous road trips. He was close to his nieces, and nephews and treated them as his own. He enjoyed crossword puzzles and was an avid reader, especially political writings. His favorite sports teams were the Minnesota Twins and Vikings and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Ken also enjoyed eating bullheads, fresh out of Lake Shetek. On many occasions they could catch 100 bullheads in one day.

Grateful to have shared his life are his siblings, Beverlyn (Don) Bouma and Patty (Dave) Hill both of Le Mars, IA, Edd (Kay) Harms of Wichita, KS, and Merle (Sue) Huls of Le Mars, IA; a sister-in-law, Pat Harms of Le Mars, IA; numerous nieces and nephews; and close family friends were the Vander Molen family and Ruhland family, especially Roger Ruhland of Le Mars, IA; and his cat, Dusty.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Jerry Andersen, Don (Marlys) Harms, Lois Hagert, Arnold Harms, Elaine (Bob) Grosenheider, Alfred Harms, Joanne Harms and Arlis Harms; and a brother-in-law, Max Baker; and close friend, Jim Vander Molen.
