Joshuah Jefferson Koons, 23, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away unexpectedly at this home on Monday, December 6, 2021. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. Joseph Church in Le Mars. Father Bruce Lawler will celebrate Mass. Visitation with the family present will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at St. Joseph Church.

Joshuah Jefferson Koons was born on June 27, 1998, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Jeffry Alan and Kim Ellen (Swanson) Koons. He spent the first year of his life in Minneapolis, Minnesota to assist him with some health issues. After that, he and his mother, Kim returned home to Le Mars. Josh started his schooling at Clark Elementary. He later transferred to Kissinger Elementary in Merrill, Iowa. He spent his middle school and high school years in Le Mars, graduating in 2019. Following high school, Josh participated in a daily program at The Village in Sheldon, Iowa. Josh was the inspiration for Josh's ride, a local organization that provides specialized bicycles for those in need. To this day over 65 bicycles have been donated.

Josh, "Bo-Dean", "Mr. No Man", "Whack a mole", Kitchen Nazi" smiling, sweet kind soul, could sleep anywhere standing, sitting, walking or riding his bike! His face said it all for him.
Josh had so many loves throughout the years. Mini blinds, flashlights, doll houses, books, puzzles, blocks, hiding our keys and watching us frantically looking for them when all we needed to do was ask him, cereal boxes, cramming one more bag of chips into the cupboard, riding his bike, going to the store, being in charge of the kitchen and following his mom around like a drill sergeant. He had one certain thing he disliked and that was basketball.,which he spent many days and weekends at. Many times he would catch up on sleep during a game. Josh added a very special gift to his family and will be missed dearly.


Grateful to have shared his life are his parents, Jeff and Kim Koons of Le Mars, IA; his brothers, Jake Koons of Vermillion, SD and Gavin and Griffin Koons at home in Le Mars, IA; his maternal grandparents, John and Joan Swanson of Estherville, IA; aunts and uncles, Colleen Lathrop of Baltic, SD; Darlene Lauritsen of Estherville, IA; Tom (Sue) Koons of Estherville, IA; Tim Koons of Oxford, WI; David (Patricia) Koons of Estherville, IA; Diane (Jim) Bauerly of Sioux City, IA; Theresa (Dave) Moritz of Norwalk, IA; Lynette (Travis) Aldag of Ida Grove, IA; Cheryl (Todd) Wee of Spirit Lake, IA and Kenny (Miki) Swanson of Pipestone, MN along with several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Don and Lorraine Koons; a cousin, Jessica Lynn Wee; and an Uncle Tom Lauritsen.
