Jolene B. Hamann, 92, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Village in Le Mars. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars, Iowa. Rev. Christian Meier will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the church.
Jolene Barbara Hamann was born on May 21, 1931, in Homer, Nebraska, the daughter of Leo and Margaret (Goodsel) Wilke. She was raised in the Homer area and graduated from Homer High School in 1949. Following high school, Jolene attended Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska where she majored in education. Her first teaching job was in a country school in Dakota County, Nebraska.
On June 2, 1951, Jolene and Fred Orville "Fritz" Hamann were united in marriage in Dakota City, Nebraska. They made their home in Le Mars, Iowa. While Fritz served his country during the Korean War, Jolene continued her teaching career in South Sioux City. They returned to Le Mars following the war and Jolene stayed at home with their children. In 1970, Jolene went to work as a receptionist at Wells Blue Bunny. She retired in 2001.
Jolene was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. She served on numerous committees along with Altar Guild, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She also served as a volunteer at Good Samaritan (Brentwood) Village. In her spare time, Jolene enjoyed flower gardening.
Grateful to have shared her life is her daughters, Margaret "Margie" Pigg of Le Mars, IA and Joy Tooker and her husband Dennis of Orange City, IA; grandchildren, Bobby Pigg of Sioux City, IA, Troy (Jen) Cooke and great-grandchildren, Allie and Katie of Sioux City, IA, Jamie Tooker and great-grandchildren, Trenton, Cole, Brenna and Taya of Orange City, IA, Katie (Jon) Jeltema and great-grandchildren, Austin (Allison), Luke and Adyson of Orange City, IA, and Brian (Crisinda) Tooker and great-grandchildren, Jackson and Kaliegh of Orange City, IA; Kym Beach of Le Mars, IA and great-grandchildren, Taylor and Bailey, of Le Mars, IA; son-in-law, Bill Beach of Le Mars, IA; and a sister-in-law, Jane Wilke of Sioux City, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fritz on June 10, 1989, a son, Terry Hamann; a daughter, Mary Beach; a son-in-law, David Pigg; grandchildren, Alisa Tooker and Kyle Beach; and a brother, Stanley Wilke.
