Obituary for Jack D. Mc Dougall Jack D. Mc Dougall , 85, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at his home following a brief illness. Funeral services will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars. Rev. Jan Christensen will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars with military honors provided by Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at the church.
John D. "Jack" McDougall was born on February 8, 1929 in Plymouth County, Iowa to John and Agnes (Werth) McDougall and was baptized that same year at Plymouth Presbyterian Church, rural Le Mars, Iowa.
Jack served in the United States Army in 1951. He earned his Honorable Discharge in 1953 and would later become a Life Member of the American Legion.
He started showing horses in 1942; winning 6 Grand Championships at the Iowa State Fair with 6 different horses. In 1996, he was inducted into the Iowa State Fair Horseman's Hall of Fame. Throughout the years his horses won 127 trophies from shows all over the Midwest.
Jack received much satisfaction from volunteer work at church, the community, and the Floyd Valley Hospital. He served the Meals on Wheels program as a director for 18 years. In 2001, Jack received his 50-year membership recognition with the Masonic Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star. He was a charter member of the Le Mars Community Theater and served as its 2nd president in 1970.
He enjoyed good music and loved to travel. In 2001, as a member of the National Amusement Parks Historical Association (NAPHA) he traveled throughout Europe visiting France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, United Kingdom, Denmark, and Sweden. Jack rode the newest roller coasters and thrill rides at ten parks. He also made many trips to Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany, the world's largest festival of over 6 million people from all over the world.
Jack will be lovingly remembered by many cousins and numerous friends.
Memorials may be directed to Noah's Ark Preschool in Le Mars.
