Obituary for Frank Gary Booth Frank Gary Booth, 73, of Marcus, Iowa passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at the Heartland Care Center in Marcus. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 14, 2016 at Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus, Iowa. Rev. Ron Rice will officiate. Burial will follow at Grand Meadow Cemetery, rural Washta, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Grace United Methodist Church. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church on Monday prior to the funeral service.
Frank Gary Booth was born on March 17, 1942 in Sioux City, Iowa, the only child of Frank and Lillian "Lon" (Leesley) Booth. Gary's dad, Frank, passed away shortly thereafter and Lillian married Vern Brownmiller. Gary attended school in Marcus and graduated from Marcus High School in 1960. After graduation he worked for the City of Marcus, trucked with his cousin and assisted his mother with the Kid's Corner Drive Inn.
On October 30, 1971, Gary and Sheila Peterson of Washta, Iowa were united in marriage at Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus. They made their home in Marcus where they built the Big Booth Restaurant. Along with operating the restaurant with Sheila, Gary worked at Curly's Foods in Sioux City for over 30 years. He retired in 2011.
Gary was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Marcus. He was an avid and accomplished bowler, played pool, cards and was a coin collector. He had an extensive vegetable garden and spent any spare moment caring for his plants along with many helpful friends. Gary was a hard worker and never shied away from a job.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 44 years, Sheila of Marcus, IA; his children, Rory (Amber) Booth of Marcus, IA, Shannon (Paul) Booth Biberdorf of Cedar Rapids, IA and Shiuvaunne (Sarah) Booth of Le Mars, IA; eight grandchildren, Connor Booth, Brody Biberdorf, Blythe Biberdorf, Hannah Dreckman, Alec Dreckman, Caleb Dreckman, Brayden Dreckman and Alyssa Dreckman; sisters-in-law, Sandra (Gene) Schwickerath of Cedar Falls, IA and her son, Ronan (Lisa) Schwickerath and Marcia (Betty) Peterson of Le Claire, IA; brothers-in-law, Aaron Peterson of Sioux City, IA and his children, April (Kevin) Dwyer and Scott (Mindy) Peterson, Maurice "Pete" Peterson of Amana, IA, Rick Leesley and Butch (Vicki) Allen all of Osceola, MO and a very special Aunt Bonnie (Jack) Leesley of Westminster, CO.
He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law, Shirley and Maurice Peterson; sister-in-law, Rose Peterson; and nephews, Terry and Shane Schwickerath as well as special friends Gary "Boze" Rasmussen and Jim Brownmiller.
