Obituary for Evelyn JoAnn Woodall (Mathers) Evelyn J. Woodall, 82, of Kingsley, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at the Johnson – Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley, Iowa. Rev. Bob Blair will officiate. Burial will take place at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, rural Washta, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2015 with the family present from 5-7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the funeral home prior to the service on Saturday.
Evelyn JoAnn Woodall was born on December 11, 1932 in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Ella (Jaacks) Mathers. She attended school in Kingsley, graduating from high school in 1950. Following her education, Evelyn took a position as a secretary in the Correctionville school system.
On July 31, 1955, Evelyn and John Thomas Woodall were united in marriage at the United Methodist Church in Kingsley. They made their first home on the Woodall family farm. Along with caring for her family, Evelyn assisted John with all aspects of farming. She was also an active member of Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church. In 2003, Evelyn and John retired from farming and moved to Kingsley. John passed away on March 6, 2008.
In her spare time she enjoyed watching baseball on Sundays, mysteries on television and was an avid reader. While on the farm, Evelyn gardened, canned, embroidered and quilted. After John passed away, she joined a group of ladies that gathered often for supper.
She will be lovingly remembered by her three daughters and their families, Becky and Bret Udell, their children, Mitchell and Madison of Hinton, IA; Lisa Oetken and her sons, Cody and Taylor of Merrill, IA, and Michele McCreary, her sons, David and Brian, and Evelyn's great-granddaughter, Emma McCreary all of South Sioux City, NE; three sisters, Norma and Neal Pinkerton, Janice and Wayne Pfaffle and Marge and Bill Laddusaw all of Kingsley, IA; a brother, Wayne Mathers of Kingsley, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; daughter, Terri Woodall; sister, Helen Bolton; brothers, Jim and Bob Mathers.
