Obituary

Obituary for Elizabeth Arlene Horstman (Sand) Elizabeth Arlene Horstman was born June 2, 1926. She was the daughter of John and Mae (Carey) Sand. She grew up on the family farm in Cherokee County, Iowa. Bette graduated from Holy Name School in Marcus.

Bette married William "Bill" Horstman on March 5, 1945. They farmed east of Marcus and were actively involved in Sand Seed Service management until Bill's untimely death on March 16, 1963. Bette remained an owner of Sand Seed and was on the Board of Directors.

She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church, St. Ann's Guild and Heartland Care Center Auxiliary. She will be remembered by many for her homemade bread and sweet rolls along with her peanut brittle and cookies. She was a friend to all who knew her.

Survivors include her daughter, Jean Crouchley and her husband Ted of Omaha, NE; son, Denny Horstman and his wife Janelle of Marcus, IA; daughter, Renee Hogue and her husband Dave of Omaha, NE and son, Robb Horstman and his wife Liz of Edina, MN; eleven grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bonnie Smith of Marcus, IA and Mary Bunkers of Granville, IA; sisters-in-law, Edith Sand of Marcus, IA and Phyllis Moore of Scottsdale, AZ.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Bill; brothers, Merle, Ray, Bob and Paul Sand; sisters, Evelyn Krause and Margaret Bjork.
