Elizabeth Jean Hermes, 92, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at Good Samaritan Society in Le Mars. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 17, 2021, at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. Joseph Church in Le Mars. Father Bruce Lawler will Celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5 – 7 p.m. with a Rosary at 5:00 p.m. and a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Friday.

Elizabeth Jean Hermes was born on February 12, 1929, in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Thomas and Mary (Rodenborn) Kohout. She grew up in Fort Dodge and went to school at Sacred Heart until the 8th grade. Jean and her family moved to Le Mars where she graduated in 1947 from St. Joseph's School. She attended one year at Briar Cliff College in Sioux City, Iowa. On June 12, 1950, Jean and Cornelius "Tony" Hermes were united in marriage at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. Tony passed away on November 25, 1983.

Jean helped her parents found the company K-Products in Sioux Center, Iowa. She worked with them there until her mother broke her leg, at which time Jean took a break from the company to take care of her mother. She retired from K-Products in 1981. Jean was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children; Joe (Karen) Hermes of Phoenix, AZ, Kay (Jim) Delaney of Council Bluffs, IA, Mary (Hermes) Langel of Le Mars, IA, Ann (Mitch) Furnas of Norwalk, IA, John (Roxie) Hermes of Le Mars, IA and Beth (Leif Widlund) Hermes of Norwalk, IA; grandchildren, Jackie (Micheal) Norde, Jodi (Jon) Nagel, Jessie (Adam) Hall, Jeremy (Amber) Delaney, Tanya Delaney, Patrick (Whitney Lee), Delaney, Eric (Brianne) Mitchell, Sami (Shana Stuart) Furnas, Alex Hermes, Megan (Josh) Schminkey and Tony Hermes; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Reitz, Ethan and Bryant Nagel, Lennon and Ruby Hall, Haleigh Henderson, Dakota and Carson Delaney, Hudson and Jaxon Delaney, Olivia and Sydney Mitchell and great-great grandson, Zane; her siblings: Bud Kohout of New Hampshire and Pat Ryan of Le Mars, IA and several nieces and nephews.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; siblings, Bob, Tom, Bill, Jack, Sister Mary.Andre and Margaret Kohout; and her granddaughter, Heather Hermes.
