Duane M. Johnson, 90, of Arnolds Park, Iowa, formerly of Estherville, Iowa, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2023, at his home, a witness to his family of his strong faith in Jesus Christ until the end. To abide by Duane's wishes, private family services with burial will take place at a later date.

Duane Morten Johnson was born Aug 26, 1933, to Torval and Helga (Vesgaard) Johnson near Alta, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. A 1951 graduate of Hartley High School, Duane served in the US Army from 1953-1955. He then attended Morningside College majoring in Livestock Marketing. Duane married Doris Fischer in 1956 in Sioux Valley, Minnesota. For ten years he was employed by Spencer Packing Company as a cattle buyer, followed by two years with Blue Ribbon Beef in Le Mars, Iowa.

In 1969, Duane and Doris opened the Villager Restaurant in Estherville, Iowa. They also founded and added a second business, Lakes Vending, later moving it to Spirit Lake, Iowa. Duane and Doris enjoyed many years of snowmobiling, traveling, and family vacations over their 63 years of marriage. They weathered many storms of life together as well, relying on their strong faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Duane's survivors include his four children and their families, Diane Johnson (Maddie and Andrew Dose), Dan and Seiko Johnson (Edward), David and Carmen Johnson (Nicole), Debbie and Aaron Albright (Christopher and Faith, Olivia and Dalton, Ethan Albright, along with four great-grandchildren).

Duane was preceded in death by his wife, Doris in 2019; his brothers, LeRoy and Gary, parents, Torval and Helga, daughters, Dawn, Denise, Debra and son, Timothy.
