Dorathe Ann Nielsen, 94, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Sunday, August 6, 2023, at Park Place Estates Assisted Living in Le Mars. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Rev. Dr. Jean Ziettlow will officiate. Burial will take place at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00- 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home. There will also be one hour of visitation on Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the service.

Dorathe Ann Nielsen was born in Waterbury, Nebraska on April 22, 1929, to Albert and Inez
(Benstead)Woods. The family later moved to South Sioux City, Nebraska where she graduated from high school. While working in Sioux City she met Doyle Donavon Nielsen. They were united in marriage on October 16,1948, in South Sioux City, Nebraska.

Doyle and Dorathe first lived in Omaha, Nebraska. The couple later moved to Le Mars in 1958. Doyle and Dorathe enjoyed spending summers at their cabin on Rainy Lake, near International Falls, Minnesota and spending winters at South Padre Island, Texas. Dorathe enjoyed being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Survivors include 3 children, Robin Grosenheider and her husband Dave of Le Mars, Scott Nielsen and his wife Chris of Le Mars, and Holly Schapiro and her husband Dave of Tampa, Florida; 5 grandchildren, Jill Rudd and her husband Mike of Columbus, Ohio, Justin Nielsen and his wife Safia of Ankeny, Iowa, and Christopher Nielsen and his fiancée Alexis McConnell of Remsen, Iowa, Emily Janssen and her husband Connor of Orlando, Florida, and Amanda Schapiro of Tampa, Florida; 3 great grandchildren, Harper and Joshua Nielsen of Ankeny, Iowa and Wyatt Janssen of Orlando, Florida.

Dorathe was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle; her parents, Albert and Inez Woods; and a sister, Donna Lischke.
