Dean Davison, 82, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Floyd Valley Healthcare in Le Mars. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at All Saints Catholic Parish – St. Joseph Church in Le Mars. Father Bruce Lawler will celebrate Mass. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars with military honors conducted by Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the church. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a Scriptural Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. The family requests that you wear Hawkeye attire to the prayer service. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Saturday.
Jay Dean Davison was born on May 11, 1941, in Ewing, Nebraska to Jay and Oneita (Horrocks) Davison. He graduated from Center High School in Center, Nebraska. In 1959, Dean moved to Iowa where he worked for some local farmers. He joined the 185th Air National Guard in 1963 and in 1968 was called to serve in the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge in 1969. Dean received the Quilt of Valor at the Plymouth County Fair. On July 11, 1964, Dean was united in marriage to Bonita Plendl. They were blessed with three children, Dan, Dawn and Dee Jay.
Upon returning to Iowa, he started doing some farming as well as custom farming for several years. Several years later, he trucked and hauled cattle for Harlan Wagner. In 1989, Dean started trucking for Chesterman Coke, which he continued to do until his retirement in 2006. Following his retirement, he went to work for Plendl's and then for Dirksen's hauling grain. He totally retired in 2022.
One of Dean's greatest loves was his horses. He purchased Percheron Draft horses in 1995. He did many things with his horses, including planting corn, picking corn and threshing oats with his threshing machine. He gave many rides with his horses, including weddings, the Plymouth County Fair and Pioneer Village Christmas Wonderland for over 25 years. He loved watching the Hawkeyes and attended many of their basketball games.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Bonita of Le Mars; his children, Daniel (Jackie) Davison of Le Mars and Dawn (Kevin) Derochie of Le Mars; his grandchildren, Andrew (Sarah) Schultze, Matt (Kait) Schultze, Mitch (Mindi) Schultze, Krista (Ryan Baldwin) Schultze, Rylee Griffith, Jaiden (Tate Linton) Davison and Jordyn Davison, Jay (Audrey) Davison, Jaycee (Braden Hansen) Davison, Jaymison Jurrens and Kenadee, Makayla, Alexis, Ashlyn and Alivia Derochie; great-grandchildren, Tavion, Lakin and Mason Schultze, Gracie, Owen and Skylar Schultze, Madelyn Boehm, Brandon Boehm, Kaisen Baldwin, Austin Pyle, Jaiden Majeres, Maddie Pyle, Stella Davison, Kobe Jones and Kiye Brown; brothers, Bob Davison of Texas, and Larry (Rhonda) Davison of Kearney, NE; sisters, Joann Eisenbiess of Springfield, SD, Linda (Jim) Hinrichs of Lincoln, NE, Cinda (Mike) Behn, of Kearney, NE; in-laws, Ramona Plendl of Kingsley, IA, Wayne (Gloria) Plendl, Robert (Ann) Plendl, and Shelly (Gayle Morgan) Schweitzberger all of Kingsley, IA, Cindy Thomas of Crossett, AR.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; his son, Dee Jay Davison in 2004; his siblings, Jim Davison, Florence (Roy) Vandersnick and Sharon (Val) Johns; and his in-laws, Richard Plendl and Stan Eisenbiess.
