Obituary

Obituary for David William Hunter David W. Hunter, 73, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Le Mars. Rev. Jon Meredith will officiate. Burial will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery (Adaville) rural, Akron, Iowa. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, October 19, 2015 at the First Baptist Church. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service scheduled for 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral service.

David William Hunter was born on March 7, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois to Ralph and Mildred (Tindall) Hunter. He graduated from Le Mars High School in 1960 and Westmar College in 1966 with a degree in education.

On January 17, 1965, David enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard. He served during the Vietnam War and earned his honorable discharge on January 17, 1972. Following the service, David taught Social Studies at Linn-Grove High School as well as coaching girls' basketball. He later moved to Le Mars, Iowa and worked at Lampert Lumber Company.

Dave was a member at First Baptist Church in Le Mars. He served on various boards and committees and sang often with the choir. Dave also served on the Le Mars Little League Board of Directors. He volunteered his time as a Senior Companion and with the food pantry and banquet at Rejoice! Community Church. He thoroughly enjoyed fishing and was an avid sports fan.

He is survived by his son, Scott Hunter and his children, Nathan and Kira Hunter of Le Mars, Iowa; a daughter, Wendy Marshall and her children, Mercedes Draper, Ali, Hannah and Zachary Marshall of Boone, Iowa; a brother, Ronald Hunter and his wife Clara of Le Mars, Iowa; a sister, Susan Miller and her husband Teddy of Alcester, South Dakota; and several nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by parents; two infant sisters, Diane and Marie; and a nephew, Tom Nilles.
