Darrell Dwight
Schulz Jr.
Oct 18, 1962 — Apr 28, 2025
Le Mars
Darrell Dwight Schulz Jr, 62, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly at his home on April 28, 2025.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2025, at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will begin at 4:00 p.m. and will continue until the service time on Friday, at the funeral home. Darrell was born to Cathlin (Boetger) and Darrell Schulz Sr on October 18, 1962, in Le Mars. He married Stevette Golladay in 1988. Born of this union were his daughter, Natasha Nickael, and son, Tristan Scott.
Darrell attended the Le Mars Community Schools. Besides Le Mars and other places in northwest Iowa, Darrell lived in: Guthrie, Oklahoma; Apple Valley, California; Waterville, Minnesota; and Sioux Falls, SD, where he worked a wide variety of jobs, including: Schuster Company, Vans Sanitation, Family Tree Landscaping, Powerwash USA, Tritz Pallets, Klingbeil Mink Farm, Goodwill Industries, Darling International, and Joe's Ready Mix. Darrell was a jack of all trades and could do almost everything from working on cars to building houses and decks and a variety of physically demanding jobs. Darrell was strong, self-assured, and afraid of nothing (except spiders). Darrell once drove his International Scout through the Tuff Truck course at the Plymouth County Fair. He may have lost a work vehicle, but he won the Bonzai jump competition.
He had a great sense of humor and loved a good prank. His first professional tattoo was his favorite cartoon character, the Tasmanian Devil. Darrell enjoyed spending time outdoors. He especially loved to fish, hunt, and trap. He took several memorable Red River catfishing trips with Jason and Terri, Mark and Brenda, and Todd. Over the years he shared his life with many pets, including his iguana Iggy, his dog Didhebiteya, a piranha, and a pet silver fox named Dixie, who was rehomed to a local petting zoo after escaping and following someone through an open door into City Hall.
Darrell is survived by his parents; his Daughter Natasha Nickael (Chris) Ward, and their children Ahrianna Westhoff, Rhyen Ward, and Diesel Ward, of Le Mars; his son Tristan Scott (JaLisa) Schulz and their daughter SkyLee Schulz, of Evansville, Indiana; sisters Crystal (Brian) Coon, Brenda (Mark) Sturgeon, Robin (Justin) Jongerius, all of Le Mars, and Tina (Brian) Luinstra of Ashton, Iowa; aunts and uncles Manuel and Nancy Schulz, Diane Kamstra, Mark Saltsgiver, Gerald Lewis, Leroy "Junior" Schulz, Sharon Keller, Bonnie Connor, Jim Hanna, Carol Nelson, and Randy and Ardis Boetger; many cousins, nieces, and nephews; and cousin and lifelong best friend Tim Schulz.
Darrell was preceded in death by grandparents: Clifford and Mildred Boetger and Mildred and Leroy Schulz; aunts and uncles: Gene Nelson, Beverly Hanna, Betty Schulz, Betty Saltsgiver, Paulette Lewis, Joni and Bill Schulz, Alvin "Duke" and Sandy Schulz, Helen and John Jaros, Shirley and Bill Ainsworth, Pete Kamstra, Charles Keller, and Larry Connor; cousins: Misty Jo Hanna, Stacy Boetger, Heath Bermel, Linda Larkin, and Terri Meyer; and his nephew Jagar Marcus King.
