Darrell Peterson, 98, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Kingsley Specialty Care in Kingsley, Iowa.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time and following the services during a time of lunch and fellowship, all at the funeral home. Darrell Vincent Peterson, the son of Harry and Mabel (Carroll) Peterson, was born on February 22, 1927, in Hornick, Iowa. He grew up on the border of Monona County (IA) and Woodbury County (IA). He attended country school and graduated from high school.

He enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp in 1945. He served his country until his honorable discharge in 1948. Following his discharge, he went to work for the Department of Motor Vehicles in the driver's license division. While working there, he met his future wife, Mary Jane Pehler.

On September 1, 1954, Darrell and Mary Jane were united in marriage at St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Early on, they lived in Storm Lake, Iowa, where Darrell worked at a bank and a local grocery store. Later on, they returned to Le Mars, where Darrell went to work in advertising for the Le Mars Daily Sentinel. After working for the Sentinel, he worked in advertising for the Catholic Globe in Sioux City until his retirement. He then worked part time for KQ Oil in Le Mars for several years. Mary Jane passed away on April 7, 2023.

He was a member of All Saints Catholic Parish in Le Mars. Darrell was an avid baseball fan and would watch many games. He also enjoyed being outdoors, reading, and people watching.

He will be lovingly remembered by his two daughters, Ann (Larry) Luksan and Susan Peterson, both of Le Mars, IA; grandchildren: Sara of Des Moines, IA, Angie of Le Mars, IA, and Amanda (significant other, Jimmy Harris) of Sioux City, IA; great-grandchildren: Devon, Austin (significant other, Courtney Sitzmann), Ethan, and Caiden; great-great granddaughters: Haizlee and Nova; his sister, Betty Jean Peterson of Cyprus, CA; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Allan; his wife, Mary Jane Peterson; his siblings: Sharon Petersen, Carlye Peterson, and Duane Peterson; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Margaret (Streng) Pehler.
