Dale Hennigs Sr. was born on May 19, 1943, in Plymouth County, Iowa, the son of Hilbert and Anna (Siebens) Hennigs. He is the grandson of H.W. Hennigs who migrated into Iowa from Germany as a minister and parochial schoolteacher. He attended parochial school in a country schoolhouse near his family farm. Later in his life, Dale worked for himself as a longtime dairy farmer in Hawarden, milking 158 cows each day. He married Francis (Franny) Ahlers in 1964, and they had two sons. His first son Dale Hennigs Jr. was born on July 11, 1965, and his second son Dean Hennigs was born on October 13, 1969. Dale then remarried LeAnn (Simonson) Hennigs in 1998, and on January 27, 2000, his daughter Anna Hennings was born.
Dale purchased the Hi-Lite Lounge in 1982 where he made many friends along the way. Soon after, he became very well known in LeMars for his quick-wit and bright personality. He later moved to rural LeMars, and sold the Hi-Lite in 2013, where it is now the Browns' Central Event Center and Inn On Central.
Dale was a proud member of Christ Lutheran Church in rural LeMars. He liked to listen to old time country music, he loved fishing, travelling, studying scripture, and was loyal to his many friends he made along the way. Dale was adamant about his faith and made it a point to never be late to church on Sundays. He believed it imperative to partake in holy communion and believed so strongly in its importance that he insisted.
He is survived by his children, Dale Hennigs Jr., of Omaha, NE, Dean Hennigs of Sioux Center, IA, Annastasia Fox (Anna Hennings) and her husband Devan Fox of Sheldon, IA; his grandson, Steve Hennigs of Sioux Falls, SD; his sister, Bettyann Haring of Loveland, CO; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Hilbert and Anna Hennigs, his aunts; Minnie Kruse, Rose Ludwigs, and Francis Ludwigs, his uncles; Herman Kruse, Jack Ludwigs, Otto Ludwigs, his brother Lloyd Hennigs, his brother in law; Roger Haring and his dear friend Alvin Miller.
