Constance "Connie" Vornbrock, 72, of Merrill, Iowa, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2023, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen, Iowa. A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at the Merrill First United Methodist Church. Rev. Berth Kayembe Lundula will officiate. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church. A private family graveside service with military honors by Oleson – Halweg American Legion Post #125 will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Merrill, Iowa.
Constance Ann Vornbrock was born on October 31, 1950, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur J. and Margaret A. (Pinto) Vornbrock. She graduated from Gehlen Catholic High School and continued her education at Western Iowa Technical Community College in Sioux City, Iowa where she earned an associate's degree.
In 1971, Connie enlisted in the United States Army. She served full time until 1984 when she joined the Army Reserves. Connie earned her Honorable Discharge on January 15, 1995, having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Connie had been a member of Assumption Church in Merrill and is currently a member of the Merrill First United Methodist Church. She was also a member of Oleson – Halweg American Legion Post #125 in Merrill. Connie was active in her church and community. She delivered Meals on Wheels and assisted with the Merrill Senior Center. She did a great deal of quilting that she donated to Life Skills Training Center for fundraising auctions.
She is lovingly remembered by her brothers, Tom (Susie) of Killeen, TX, Ronald (Charmaine) of Merrill, IA, Paul (Lila) of Sylmar, CA and Peter (Barbara) of Prescott, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents; and grandparents, Joseph and Katherine Vornbrock and Walter and Rosemary Pinto.
