Obituary for Charles Scott Krekow Charles S. Krekow, 91, of Marcus, Iowa, Passed away on Friday, September 4, 2015 at Heartland Care Center in Marcus. A Memorial Service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Marcus, Iowa. Rev. Don Meyer will officiate. Burial will follow at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2015 at the Earnest – Johnson Funeral Home in Marcus with the family present from 5-8 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the service on Saturday.
Charles Scott Krekow was born in Le Mars, Iowa to Albert and Elma (Scott) Krekow on August 14, 1924. He was raised on the family farm south of Marcus where he attended Amherst No. 9 country school. After a year of confirmation instruction at Trinity Lutheran Church, he attended Marcus High School where he graduated in 1943. After graduation, he farmed with his father.
On September 3, 1950, He Married Lois Kroeger at Christ Lutheran Church, Remsen, Iowa. They were blessed with two daughters, Deborah and Kay. Together, Chuck and Lois farmed in Amherst Township for forty one years.
Chuck was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed. He had served as an elder and other church board positions both at Trinity and Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen. Chuck also taught a high school Bible class. He was active in his community having served on the Cherokee County Extension Board, was past president of the Marcus Fair Board as well as having been elected to the Community Coop Board of Directors and served as their secretary. He was a member of the Pioneer Machinery Club in Le Mars, Iowa and a former member of the 2 Cylinder Club at Spencer. He enjoyed working in his shop, restoring old tractors (especially the green and yellow ones), and restoring gasoline engines. In his spare time he watched sprint cars and NASCAR.
Along with farming, Chuck worked as an insurance adjuster for Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company for 24 years. Following his retirement from farming, he continued to do adjusting. Charles also had a business called "Reproduction by Chuck" where he manufactured radiator grills for antique John Deere tractors. He retired from that work in 2012. Many of his parts were shipped throughout the United States and overseas.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Lois Krekow of Marcus, Iowa; a daughter, Kay Krekow and her husband, Dr. Harry Dunstan of Derwood, Maryland; a step grandson, Nick Dunstan of Washington, DC; several cousins; and his good friend and special great nephew, Kory Kroeger of Remsen, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Deborah Krekow-Nelson; his mother and father-in-law; and a brother-in-law.
