Obituary

Carol Jean Rutten, 84, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Village in Le Mars. A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Rejoice! Community Church. Pastor Mike Metten will officiate. A private family burial will take place at the Larchwood Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present from 5-7 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday at Rejoice! Community Church.

Carol Jean Rutten was born on February 20, 1940, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, the daughter of William and Edna (Hamann) Roemen. She graduated from Larchwood (Iowa) High School and furthered her education at the University of South Dakota at Vermillion. She then attended the Le Mars Beauty College. On September 5, 1959, Carol and Clarence Rutten were united in marriage in Larchwood. Clarence passed away on September 8, 1963.

Along with her job as a hairdresser, Carol worked in the dietary department at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars for 20 years. She then took a position at Plymouth Life. After ten years at Plymouth Life, Carol moved to the dietary department at Floyd Valley Hospital, where she retired from.

Carol was a member of Rejoice! Community Church in Le Mars. Her greatest love in life was spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cheering them on at all their baseball, football and basketball games. She also enjoyed planting and caring for her flowers and watching and feeding the birds.

Grateful to have shared her life are her daughters and their husbands, Cathleen and Todd DeBoer of Le Mars, IA and Clarice and John Flem of Grass Valley, CA; grandchildren, Derick (Tanya) DeBoer, Monica (Nathan Cannon) DeBoer, Angela (Robbie) Henry and Ashley (Alex) Demy; great-grandchildren, Aiden and Easton DeBoer, Christian Owen, Jack Henry, Otis Henry; her sister, Mary Lynn (Stephen) King; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence; sister, Glorianne and her husband Donnie Reiter; sister, Allene and her husband Albert "Bud" Schreuder, sister, Rosalie and her husband Michael Buckley.
