Bonnie Lee Caravan, 61, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her family, following a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Craig Marihart will officiate. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at the funeral home. The family will be present from 5-7 p.m.
Bonnie Lee Caravan was born on August 10, 1962, in Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Edward and Carole (Brown) Bowman. At a young age she moved to Le Mars, Iowa, and was raised by Carole and Ronald Mahlke, Sr. Bonnie attended Le Mars Community High School.
On February 14, 1983, Bonnie and William V. Caravan were united in marriage at Elk Point, South Dakota. They made their home in Le Mars. Along with caring for her family, Bonnie operated a crafting business with her mother, owned and operated a video production company named Memories in Motion, worked at Jo's Movie House and bartended at the Red Hanke Saloon. Her last job was in the office at Mr. Muffler.
Bonnie was an avid walleye fisherman and relished her time at their cabin in North Wheeler, South Dakota. She was a faithful fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Her favorite times were spent in the backyard with her family at the tiki bar and in the pool. Everyone that knew Bonnie will remember her always responding with "Love You More".
Grateful to have shared her life is her husband of 41 years, Bill Caravan of Le Mars, IA; her children and grandchildren, Trudy (Chad) Poeckes and Briana, Taye, Jozi, Tanner and Dawson of Le Mars, IA, T.J. (Carly) Caravan and Boston and Mia of Spencer, IA; sisters, Tina (Brad Athens) Langel and Carole (Doug Taylor) Bowman both of Le Mars, IA; brothers, Ronald (Dawn Heitritter) Mahlke, Jr. of Le Mars, IA, Richard (Kimberly) Bowman of O'Brien, FL and Bim (Melanie) Bowman of O'Brien, FL; her father, Edward Bowman of O'Brien, FL; two brothers-in-law, Ron (Amber) Caravan of Waukee, IA and Steve (Crystal) Caravan of Greely, CO; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carole and Ronald Mahlke, Sr.; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mary Rita and Edward Caravan; and a brother-in-law, Ted Langel.
